(Abscess - Boil - Lumps)
|Lumps appearing in area of Lymph nodes on an otherwise healthy animal.
The one under the jaw is growing but still very firm. The smaller one showing under the neck is just beginning.
|(The blood is from the incision not the contents)
Lump is opened with a scalpel and the matter firmly squeezed to extract it all.
|BEWARE ANY ANIMAL EXHIBITING HEALED ABSCESSES without documented explanation.
Once infected they are infected for life and carriers of the disease!
Can you see the additional small abscesses just forming under the jaw and on the throat?
Wound is then flushed with iodine and left to heal which takes approx. 7-10 days.
|Lumps may be side by side or atop one another.
(2nd photo) Those on left side are almost healed,
whereas the ones on right are still open & draining.
The drainage is the highly contagious matter.
Animal must be isolated and appropriate BioSecurity
practiced to avoid spreading the disease.
Far Right: "pus" collected from several abscesses.
Notice the thick toothpaste-like consistency
and the typical grey/greenish white color.
